本書(shū)為《新英語(yǔ)教程》閱讀（第三版）第二冊(cè)，供大學(xué)英語(yǔ)二級(jí)的學(xué)生使用。全書(shū)共分十個(gè)單元，每個(gè)單元由PART A， PART B和PART C 三部分組成。PART A為精讀部分，用于提高學(xué)生準(zhǔn)確理解的能力，PART B 為泛讀部分，訓(xùn)練學(xué)生閱讀流暢性，提高其閱讀量。PART C為學(xué)習(xí)方法和技能指導(dǎo)。每一部分后附有練習(xí)供學(xué)生提高實(shí)際的讀、寫(xiě)、譯能力。每個(gè)單元最后有小詩(shī)可諺語(yǔ)，供學(xué)生在學(xué)有余力的情況下閱讀欣賞。
