《普通高等教育十一五國家級規(guī)劃教材：21世紀大學英語應用型自主練習（3）》是《21世紀大學英語應用型綜合教程》的配套用書。《自主練習》包括8個單元。每單元主要內(nèi)容如下：第一部分為Vocabulary and Structure，包括短語填空和段落填空，后者與單元主題相關。第二部分為Translation，包括英譯漢（句子翻譯）、漢譯英（部分翻譯）和漢譯英（句子翻譯）。第三部分為Reading Comprehension，包括快速閱讀理解（Fast Reading）、篇章層次詞匯理解（Reading in Depth — Banked Cloze）、題型為多項選擇題的閱讀理解（Multiple Choice Questions）、雅思（IELTS）閱讀理解、托福（TOEFL）閱讀理解各一篇，每種題型均與單元主題相關。第四部分為Writing，為大學英語四級寫作題型。要求學生以已經(jīng)給出的中文提示為框架，寫一篇120字左右的短文，與單元主題相關。本書最后提供所有練習的參考答案，供學生自學自查之用。
